I just finalised the presentation I’m going to be giving at the Mobile Web & Applications Europe Conference which starts tomorrow morning at the Cumberland Hotel in London and I thought I’d share with you a little test I’m going to try on delegates at the conference…
Meet Steddy the Unicycling Clown…. AKA the awareness test devised by Dr Ira E Hyman from the Western Washington University to test the theory of “inattentional blindness” suffered by people who were so distracted by their Mobile Phone that 25% of them actually failed to see even the bizarre occurrence of a unicycling clown passing them on the street. The study is published in an upcoming issue of Applied Cognitive Psychology according to a Wiley-Blackwell Press Release.
When I’m demoing The 3G Dating Agency mobile website to other delegates at the conference I’m going to take out from my pocket a postcard sized photo of “Steddy the Unicycling Clown” and I’m going to move it around. I’ll then report back here how many people noticed the unusual postcard. If I get less than 25% I think we can safely say we’ve done a good job of making an interesting service!
Word of warning: Don’t walk down the road while checking out profiles on The 3G Dating Agency. The bruises on your head from bumping into stationary objects won’t look too good when 3G Video Dating!
