Google Labs Email Translation services helps more foreign scammers get in on the game…

As most people already know a large number of Online Dating Profiles are fake and these are usually created by various types of scammers or the less reputable dating sites who want to populate their database and trick their members into dead-end-conversations so that they continue with their expensive subscription payments.

It’s not surprising to find that daters who find they’ve wasted their time and money being engaged with these fraudsters are angry and embarrassed that they’ve been so gullible (see this excellent BBC WatchDog report) but a new feature from Google Labs that works with Gmail will probably take the scale of these scams to another level.

By just pressing a single button gmail will now translate the text in your email to any other language… making it perfect for all those foreign scammers who would love to target you but previously couldn’t because of the language barriers.

Swine Flu Dating?

Got a call this morning from a journalist who wanted us to help them with some more sensationist Swine Flu news. The suggested angle was “3G Video Dating sees new member subscriptions double/treble as a result of the Swine Flu Pandemic deterring singles from hanging out in public places…”

I suppose it would have been easy to say “yeah things are really picking up as a result of these fears” and sat back waiting for the publicity to bring in new members, but, this is a very serious topic and we don’t want to add to the hype that this public health threat is already receiving from the 24 hr news channels…
