A story at World Net Daily got me thinking about how unsuitable a subscription Dating site is in these tough financial times. Here are some customer complaints from singles who wished they’d gone with a pay as you go dating site where the costs were all upfront and didn’t require the commitment or expense of a subscription service.
From Wilma: “I have paid twice. I think this is a scam to get my money. I’ve tried to do e-mail, but it just pops up how much do you want to pay each time. I’m not doing this any more, unless you give me proof this is not a scam.”
From Judy: “I was a member & I wish to stop my membership for a while. They keep taking money every month from my account. I am unemployed right now & want to stop. I did everything that needed to be done on the site, but the money is still being deducted.”
From Chris: “BE CAREFUL giving a dating site subscription as a gift! they will continue to charge YOU the gift-giver! It happened to us. We called them to resolve it explaining to them that it is illegal to charge OUR card on a continuing basis WITHOUT OUR approval. … And you know what they said? We have to have the gift recipients approval to not charge your card? WHAT?????”
From Sharon: “I also thought this program was free for one month. I paid $32.00 and understood that was all I owed. I tried to cancel the program after one month because I was dissatisfied. I also had to have back surgery and physical therapy. I tried calling and e-mail, but was unable to reach them. I am now getting phone calls and bills … and am told I owe for three months. … I am living on Social Security and can’t deal with this anymore.”
The only argument for subscription seems to be that it pays for the service to be operated, moderated and other little things like profiling engines… surely the the mobile industry has proven that the pay-as-you-go model is sustainable and with multimedia profiles and the ability to 3G Video Date who really thinks a nerdy computer “profiling them” is going to be able to help?
