What to do when your MP asks you to check out hot girls on web cams!

As an advocate for moderated online communities who blogged only last week about the problems that can unfold when you link Professional and Personal Networks i wasn’t surprised to read today in the Telegraph that a prominent MP has removed his Facebook page after his account inadvertently sent out links to his contacts inviting them to check out “sexy women”.

Bill Wiggin, a shadow minister, has removed himself from the social networking site Facebook after links to a risqué dating website were sent to his friends and colleagues…. …. The MP for Leominster, Herefordshire, said he has now deleted his webpage from the site because he did not want to be “involved in a sex scandal”. The messages from Mr Wiggin’s site were sent out to his Facebook friends, including Tory candidates Harriet Baldwin and Louise Bagshawe…. …Mr Wiggin, 42, a married father of three young children, said:

“I don’t want to be involved in a sex scandal. It’s a shame I’ve had to deactivate my account because it’s a nice way of keeping in touch with people. Facebook was one of the ways I used to contact and be contacted by people living in my constituency….. A similar thing happened a few weeks ago so I deactivated my account then and only reactivated again last week… I don’t want silly messages sent out of my account and I’ve got no idea how they are doing it, which is why I think it’s safer if I avoid Facebook in the future.”acts

Next week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona LG Mobile will announce the launch of the ARENA – the ultimate in touch screen 3G Mobiles…. i was going to list the features but it’s frankly bursting with them, they include 3G Video Calling and my words wouldn’t do justice to this thing of beauty.

Hopefully I’ll be lucky enough to get one next week at the show so visit my blog again to read my review – along with a few pictures of how good it makes Video Calling look…

Drew Barrymore describes how dating is getting ever more complicated in “He’s Just Not That Into You…”

“I had this guy leave me a voice mail at work, and so I called him at home, and he emailed me to my BlackBerry, and so I texted to his cell, and now you just have to go around checking all these different portals just to get rejected by seven different technologies. It’s exhausting”

At The 3G Dating Agency we understand the issues. Because all messages stay within your secure portal and can be read using any device that can access the internet, you don’t need to share your personal number or email address until you really know someone and want to take the next step.

“Personal and Professional Networks shouldn’t be linked”

TechCrunch has an interesting interview with Reid Hoffman, Founder of Linkedin.

“MySpace is like a bar, Facebook is like the BBQ you have in your back yard with friends and family, play games, share pictures. Facebook is much better for sharing than MySpace. LinkedIn is the office, how you stay up to date, solve professional problems”

Whilst I share Reid’s feelings that communities need to stay distinct i think it’s a bit confusing to think of MySpace as a Bar. Lots of people say that when they log into our unique database that it looks just like a bar but can you really say that about MySpace?

Surely bar’s are filled with ‘real people’ who have to at least appear to be aged 18+.
